I can almost hear their grunting.

Mommy's doing a darn good job isn't she! Those are among the healthiest puppies I've seen. Do you guys like to smell their puppy breath?

Who is that in the pictures with the puppies? She makes them look unnaturally huge.  Grin

Puppy breath........ especially Mom,s with the constant cleaning as you know is pretty gross.  That is my wife in the background ( all 105 pounds of her) your right horse, now that I look at it, they look like monster puppies.  Shocked  They are big, but not that big  the smallest is a tad over 2 Pounds, the biggest over 3 Pounds pretty impressive for 2 weeks.

I can't believe you don't smell their puppy breath. Baby mammals produce a chemical, I forget its name, that gives their breath a particular smell - not a bad on. If you rub the edges of one of the puppy's mouth, it'll make him yawn and you can steel a sniff.  Wink

Why do I alway feel like a weirdo when I get to talking about puppies?

 Wink

The black male has a great new home, as do all the pups.  We have no more puppies available.

Actually, there is a very good reason to leave the tails intact!  Our "Peaches" was the last born and only female in her litter - so doubly the runt.  By 6 weeks, she was larger than all her brothers, who were docked at 3 days.  She was better able to balance and walk - and therefor always 1st on momma.  We love our natural dobies and would be interested in finding a breeder that breeds for temperament and would let us keep tails.  Will watch the site for any replies.

Most breeders are willing to keep a puppy undocked - assuming you leave a good deposit. The trouble is you don't know their personality until they get older than four or so weeks. Different puppies are better for different homes and all that. Finding a good breeder is the first and hardest step, most likely they will accommodate you.

Okay sounds great!! I have many questions if you don't mind haha, but first let me tell you a little about me.. I am 17 yrs old, i live with my mom & brother. I have been obsessed/in love with dogs since i was basically born, especailly dobermans & i have been wanting my own since i could understand how to take care of a dog lol. We already have a chocolate lab & she's a big part of our family, we would love for her to have a playmate as well as be our bestfriend too. So fFor my highschool graduation in the summer i wanted to buy my own dog,(a dobby pup) and i planned to do so in the spring before i graduate in the summer..so that works out good that you have a litter coming spring 2009. I have read up on every breed there is all my life. I plan to dedicate my life to dogs when i'm older, so i am going to college next year to be a Vet. and later in life, a dog breeder too. Smiley I would love to purchase a puppy from you and i hope you'll allow me to do so. Comment back please.. Thanks! Grin

I have really enjoyed reading this discussion. I have had at least one almost continually from the summer of 1982. Windy was my first, and I could not believe how different she was from all that I thought about Dobes previously. I then immersed myself in finding out all that I could and found out how truly unique they are. I lost her to cancer at the age of 7, but I still had her mate a Red Male whom I name Hans Tigre Von Samson. When I brought him home he did not know what to think of the then two year old Windy. She reached down to sniff of him and he jumped up and bit her on the neck. I immediately called him Tiger, which became the German Tigre. His sire was a red and the sole survivor of his litter (late life first litter and the litter contracted parvo at the vet's) and after surviving Parvo they called him Samson.

I was fortunate to have Hansy (as I called him) for almost 12 years. I now live in S. Georgia and in '95 I was travelling a lot and boarded him at a kennel run by a couple who became friends of mine (She showed Rottweilers at the time and was a Judge). There had been some local furor over vicious dog breeds so she called the paper out to discuss the breeds. Her husband brought out Beau their Ch Rotte, Hansy, and a male Pit Bull they were boarding and introduced the reporter to the dogs. There was a very good article on the fact that it is not the breed but the owners that cause the problems and a picture of the three dogs. Sandy told me what she had done and asked if it was allright, and I said of course. In this way he helped dispel some of the misinformation.

I gave my sister, who lived in Houston, one of their offspring, a female name Gretyl. She never had any of the problems with burglars in the neighborhood that some others did. In fact she was home one day and a fellow pulled up out front, got out, left the car door open and the engine running. When he got no response at the door, sis was not about to open it, he jumped over the side fence (gate was locked) and then sis heard the commotion, he came over faster, ran to the car and burned rubber leaving. When she discussed it with her neighbor, she said that Gretyl's spooky yellow eyes probably did him in.

Since Gretyl was a recessive black, she had her daddy's yellow eyes (from the reds). I notice that the Avortman Dobe's are apparently also recessive black since that is the only way you can have red puppies with two black parents. All of Hans and Windy's  pups were black as she was a dominant black. I do have a weakness for reds, and my current Dobe, is a over sized Red, he weighs over 130lbs and stands as tall as a Great Dane. I will not breed him, even though he has all the Dobe charastics, and is a big lovable lunk, he is just too large.

I am very pleased that there are some true breeders out there for those of us who want a true Dobe for a companion, but are not of the Dog Show crowd, although they do keep the breed pure.

Hey Avortman, It looks like in the pictures of Raisa & Gunnar they have collars for in-ground fencing. If they do how is that working out?   Beautiful dobbies

Hello
It works very well, none of the dogs have ever left the property and the collars are set on low.  If you train your dogs as to where the boundaries are an under ground fence works very well Wink
