I have met some skittish Dobermans and have read that the Doberman breed is skittish and this is when dogs bite. Is this true?
The last thing a Doberman should be is skittish. A well breed Doberman is sure – not skittish. However, I have met some skittish Dobermans. Besides being skittish, they where all rescue dogs we brought in and all showed significant signs of physical abuse.
Poorly bred Dobermans do often show a skittish temperament. This is just one of the many problems created by poor breeding practices and is just one of the reasons a responsible person will carefully research a breeder before taking a puppy.
Skittishness is caused by abuse or neglect, mainly the neglect of socialization. If the puppy’s parents are sure and you socialize him, he should not become skittish.
